The "Oscar" of Kaplan
Conceived in 2023, this sculpture was born in the months before October 7th and the onset of the war. It was originally produced as a limited-edition "Oscar"- a token of deep appreciation for my family and friends who took to the streets week after week to defend the soul of Israel. At a time when the nation's liberal democratic foundations were under siege by a criminal, Judeo-fascist authoritarian government, these individuals stood as a bulwark against the erosion of the state.
The piece captures the raw energy of civil resistance: a shouting demonstrator mid-stride, gripping a flag in one defiant fist while holding a phone in the other to share the moment. It is a tribute to the hundreds of thousands who gathered on Tel Aviv’s Kaplan Street, a location that has since evolved from a physical landmark into a powerful symbol of democratic hope and the unyielding spirit of the Israeli people.
